Overcoming Anxiety: Biblical Guidance

Worry is an emotion that affects all of us. It's an emotion that impacts us all at some point in life. Due to various challenges and difficulties in life, we often find ourselves engulfed in worry. The Bible provides us with some important guidelines to overcome worry, through the verses Matthew 6:25-34 and 1 Peter 5:7.

Overcoming Anxiety: Biblical Guidance

1. Assurance of being God's children (John 3:3; Ephesians 3:15)

When we dedicate our lives to God and become His children, we should have faith that He sees every aspect of our lives and fulfills all our needs. We should be certain that we are children of God and that He is always ready to relieve us of our worries.

2. Remembering our value in the eyes of our Heavenly Father (Matthew 6:26, 32)

Jesus said, "Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" God has made us unique and precious. We should always remember how valuable we are to Him. If He cares for birds and flowers, why wouldn't He care for our worries? This belief helps us remain free from worry.

3. No benefit in worrying (Matthew 6:27)

"Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?" Worrying does not solve our problems; instead, it exacerbates them. Instead of worrying, we should trust in God.

4. Worry is not characteristic of faith (Matthew 6:32)

"For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them." Worrying is natural for those who do not know God, but it shouldn't be for us. When we have faith in God, we should understand that He knows all our needs and will fulfill them. Worry is not a characteristic of the faithful.

5. Apply your faith in action (Matthew 6:30)

"If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?" We should apply our faith in our lives. When we trust in God, we should believe that He will fulfill all our needs. We should apply our faith in our actions and leave worry behind.

6. Live one day at a time (Matthew 6:34)

"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." We should live today and not worry about tomorrow. When we live one day at a time, our worries decrease, and we experience more contentment.

7. Prioritize Lord Jesus in everything (Matthew 6:33)

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." We should prioritize Lord Jesus in our lives. When we seek Him and prioritize His kingdom, He will fulfill all our needs. This frees us from worry and gives us peace.

Conclusion

The Bible provides clear guidance on how to be free from worry. By being certain of being God's children, remembering our preciousness in His eyes, understanding the futility of worry, realizing worry is not characteristic of faith, applying our faith in our actions, living one day at a time, and prioritizing Lord Jesus in everything, we can be free from worry. We should have faith that God understands all our worries and is always ready to bring us out of every problem.
